About

On The Civil Side was created by the civil law faculty at the UNC School of Government in 2015 and has been a trusted resource for over 10 years. We write about issues of interest to court personnel and lawyers working in a variety of civil court proceedings in North Carolina, including general civil district and superior court, domestic relations matters, juvenile cases, small claims court, and hearings before clerks of superior court such as guardianship and estates. Other professionals and citizens may also find our blog useful.

Although we choose our own topics in response to issues that arise in our work or because of changes to the law and/or practice, we welcome topic suggestions. However, we do not publish guest posts from authors outside of the UNC School of Government.

The authors invite your feedback through email to the author of any post. Know that posts remain on the blog so the law is current as of the date of publication of the post but may have changed since that time. By preserving our content, a reader can see the evolution of the law over the years.

We hope you find the information we provide helpful. If you have questions or comments about the purpose or administration of the blog, contact Sara DePasquale at sara@sog.unc.edu.
